The tourney usually starts in October of each year and ends in late June or early July of the next year.
This year (2009) we moved to a new server and are taking an extra two weeks of practice round to make sure there are no interruptions during the real tourney.

WRGPT predates online poker.
WRGPT is run by unpaid volunteers on a virtual private server. It used to be in a garage in Cupertino, California, USA.
Since the entire tournament is run via email is is slow as compared to online poker sites. A single hand can take several days. Fast tables can do more than one hand per day but that is unusual.
